Clarence Zurcher
Clarence Henry Everet Zurcher, son of Emil and Elsie (Gilster) Zurcher, was born January 29, 1916 at Farmersburg, Iowa. He married Ellen Doeppke on December 4, 1943 at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Farmersburg.
Clarence lived his entire life on the family farm, rural Farmersburg. In 1929 he started in the dairy business and joined 4-H in 1930. While in 4-H he was named the Champion Holstein 4-H member. Clarence took over his father's farm in 1941. He was awarded the Progressive Breeder Award by the Holstein Association in 1967. Clarence was a member of the Holstein Association for over 60 years and served as vice president of the local group. He sold cattle throughout the U. S. and Israel. Clarence retired in 1971. In 1993 he received the Retired Dairy Producer Award.
Clarence died Friday, November 29, 1996 at his home, rural Farmersburg.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Emil and Elsie; his stepmother, Pearl; an infant brother, Bruce and an infant grandson, Randy.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen; a son, Robert Zurcher and wife Brenda of River Falls, Wisc; a daughter, Rita and her husband, Gary Pritchard of Farmersburg; six grandchildren, Robbie, Erin, Tyrel and Lee Zurcher, Cory and Lisa Pritchard; three step grandchildren, Cheryl Supples, Cathy Crawford and Melissa Pritchard; five step great grandchildren; a sister, Marjorie and her husband, Lyman Ferguson of Monticello, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 2 at 11 a.m. at Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona. Pastor Bruce Hanson officiated. Organist was Mrs. Judy Walter. Honorary pallbearers were Lyman Ferguson and Gerald Doeppke. Pallbearers were Robbie and Lee Zurcher, Cory Pritchard, Richard Bente, Don and Robert Bossard. Burial was in the Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of services.
