Herman Henry Allert, 96, of Giard, died in his home Saturday, Aug. 30.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Giard United Methodist Church by the Revs. Luella Koether, T. Janet Surdam and Carroll Brown. Burial was in Giard Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dennis Bentley, Scott Bentley, Kit Christiansen, Roger Witter, Gregory Koether and William Becker. Honorary pallbearers were Irvin Becker, Irvin Meyer, David Kluesner, Philip Olmsted, James Schultz and Ed Koether.
Schultz Funeral Home, Monona was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Allert, a retired farmer, was an active member of the Giard church for 80 years. He sang in the church choir for many years.
He was born Feb. 29, 1884, at Waupeton in Dubuque County son of Herman and Anna (Thomas) Allert Sr. He and the former Ruth Voegeding were married Aug. 25, 1925.
The Allerts celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary a week before his death.
Survivors are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Allan (Evelyn) Bentley of Ames: six granddren and one great-grand-child.
Allert was preceded in by his parents and eight brothers and sisters.
