John Casten
A Life Long Resident
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church for John Casten, 93, a lifelong resident of this community, who passed away Saturday.
The services were in charge of Rev. Charles E. Witt, pastor of St. Paul's. Burial was in Postville cemetery.
John Casten, a resident of this area all of his life, died at his home on Saturday, February 6, at the age of 93. He had been confined to his bed for over a year.
Mr. Casten was born January 19, 1861 in Clayton county, the son of John Casten and Minnie Kuhfeldt. He spent most of his life farming south of Postville in Grand Meadow township.
He was married on March 18, 1885 to Mary Magdelena Knodt. To this union was born one daughter, Theresa, and six sons; Carl, Walter, Victor, Lorenz, Leonard and John.
Mr. Casten was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son, Carl, and two grandchildren. He is survived by six children, Theresa, Walter, Victor, Lorenz, Leonard and John, 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of this city, having been baptized in infancy and confirmed in the Lutheran Church.
