Mrs. Louise Meyer passed away after a lingering illness on Friday, July 7, 1933 at 1:30 a.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Minnie Brandt, with whom she had made her home for almost three years.
She was born on September 27, 1852 at Kammerborn, Hanover, Germany.
At the age of 17 years she emigrated to this country. For about one and a half year she lived with relatives in Wheeling, W. VA. In the fall of 1871 she came to McGregor, Iowa, and in 1872 she was married at the Lutheran church in Garnavillo to William Meyer (Konrad Diedreich Wilhelm Meyer). In the providence of God this relationship was to extend over a period of 50 years. The family lived in Garnavillo for about five years and then moved to a farm in Fayette county. Here life's work was done and God signally blessed the labor of their hands. In the year 1914 they moved to Postville as the time to retire had arrived.
The departed was the mother of nine children, three of whom preceded her in death, as did also her husband who passed in 1925.
Those that survive to mourn her departure are two sons and four daughters, viz: Mrs. Minnie Brandt and Mrs. Lena Weihe of Postville; William of Castalia; Henry C. and Mrs. Anna Kuhse of Postville; Mrs. Bertha Schroeder of Clermont; and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Louise Meyer of Clermont. She is also survived by 39 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Ever since coming to this community she has been a communicant member of St. Paul's Lutheran church which she loved and whose services she regularly attended, contributing toward the support of the church as God had prospered her. She was one of the three remaining charter members of the Ladies' Aid Society, the good work of which she gladly and willingly supported.
At the time of her passing she was aged 80 years, nine months, and nine days, and she will be held in loving memory by all who knew and esteemed her.
The funeral was held from St. Paul's Lutheran church last Sunday afternoon, July 9th, Rev. L.F. Weihe of Cudahy, Wis., a grandson of the departed officiating, being assisted by the local pastor, Dr. R.B. Garten. Internment was made in the Postville cemetery.
