Marjorie (McNeil) Hale

Marjorie McNeil Hale, 72, of 703 - 7th St. SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, September 24, 1998, at home, following a short illness. Services were held 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 28, 1998, at St. Ludmila's Catholic Church, by the Rev. Harry Loelker with burial at St. John's Cemetery.

Survivors include husband, Richard; four sons, Terry and Donna Stiegemeier-Hale of Iowa City, Tim and his life partner Gloria McDowell, Randy and his wife Karen, and Ron and his wife Ginni, all of Cedar Rapids; two daughters Georgia and Nancy and her husband Tim DeNiro of Tucson, Arizona. She is also survived by a sister, Mary Finley of Elkader; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Dan, Joe and Jack McNeil. {Jack McNeil lived in Clermont, Iowa.} And her sister Bea Ducharme.

She was born October 30, 1925, in Clayton County, Iowa, to Edward and Eleanor (McDonald) McNeil. She married Richard Alan Hale on April 9, 1947, at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, Postville. She graduated from Postville High School in 1942 and attended the University of Arkansas as a freshman. She graduated from Kirkwood Community College in 1980, with an Associate of Arts Degree and also attended Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids. Marj and Dick moved to Cedar Rapids in 1964 and Marj worked as a traffic manager at various companies in Cedar Rapids, including Penick & Ford, FMC and most recently Intertrade, LTD. She spoke many times of retiring, but truly enjoyed her job and was still employed full-time through July, 1998. A member of St. Ludmila's Catholic Church, she was also a member of several political and social organizations throughout her life in Cedar Rapids. She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving her.
