Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Margery Ruth Wachter of Monona, Iowa were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 9 at Garden City United Methodist Church in Monona, Iowa with Dr. Gary Dobbins officiating. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery with Schultz Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Brent Wachter, Rich Hass, Steve Hass, Bill Steva, Bill Martin, and Virgil Thompson. Honorary pallbearers were Roger Swanson, Joe James, Tom James, Walter Begalske, Justus Kammerer, Dayton Marfilius, and Milton Klima.
Margery Ruth was born September 26, 1921 in rural McGregor, Iowa to Fred and Pearl (Thompson) Hass. She graduated from Monona High School in 1938, attended Elkader Junior College and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa. On December 30, 1945 she married John L. Wachter in Monona, Iowa. Margery taught in rural Monona, Belle Plaine, and Fonda Schools for 12 years.
Margery died Sunday, May 5, 1996 at her home in Monona, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, John, 1 son, John F. (Nancy) Wachter of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, 2 daughters, Janet (Gary) McNamara, and Carol (Dan) Pearson, all of San Diego, California; 4 grandchildren and 2 brothers, Harlan Hass of McGregor, Iowa and Ramon Hass of Columbus, Indiana.
