Funeral services for Alvira Henrietta Baker, age 79, were held Monday, January 20 at 11 a.m. in the East Clermont Lutheran Church, rural Clermont, Iowa. The Rev. James Hougen officiated. Schutte Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Steven Baker, Kelly Wallander, Bill Thias, Michael Baker, Dean Miller, and Randy Miller.

Alvira Henrietta, daughter of Henry and Tilda (Loftsgard) Amundson, was born November 20, 1912 in Clayton County, near Elgin, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at East Clermont Lutheran Church and attended the Brorby Country School near her home. On October 14, 1937 she was married to Joe Baker in the St. Olaf Parsonage. They had five sons. They farmed in Clayton County and then retired to their home west of Clermont, Iowa. She was a member of the East Clermont Lutheran Church and the Women of the ELCA.

She died Friday, January 17, 1992 at her home in Fayette County, near Clermont, Iowa. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joe, who died in 1975, and a grandson, Shane Baker.

Surviving are five sons, Justin "Skip" (Beverly) Baker of Clermont, Iowa, Lonnie (Mary) Baker of Ely, Iowa, Dr. Dan (Vicki) Baker of Falls Church, Virginia, Warren Baker, and Cornel (Kim) Baker, all of Clermont, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; a brother Harry Amundson of Clermont, Iowa and a special friend, Eunice Halvorson of Clermont, Iowa.
