Mardella Schlitter, age 82, died Friday, July 24, 1998 at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 27 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastors Bill and Kristine Schroeder officiating. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery with arrangements by Schultz Funeral Home. Casket bearers were Kim Walsh, Kurt Pierce, Mark, Dennis, and Randy Schlitter and Alan Metz.

Mardella Henrietta Louise (Kruse) Schlitter, was born January 15, 1916 in Linton Township in Allamakee County, Iowa to Fred and Bertha (Wilke)
Kruse. She received her education at the Figgie School #3. On August 23, 1933 she married Carlton Schlitter at her parent's home. They farmed for 26 years in Linton Township and in 1962 they moved to Monona to retire. Mardella was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa and its Peace Circle where she held various offices.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton who died October 26, 1987, a son Ronald Schlitter who died March 7, 1987, a brother Milton Kruse, and a sister-in-law, Francis Kruse.

She is survived by a daughter, Beverly (James) Walsh of Waukon, Iowa, 2 sons, Eugene (Anita) Schlitter of Monona, Iowa and Duane (Judy) Schlitter of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and a daughter-in-law, Sharen Schlitter of Sullivan, Illinois; 9 grandchildrern, 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Verni (Mabel) Kruse and Reuben Kruse, all of Monona, Iowa and 3 sisters-in-law, Bonnie Kruse of Monona, Iowa, Evelyn Schlitter of Sumner, Iowa, and Hazel Schlitter of Waukon, Iowa.
