Strawberry Point - Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Graesch, 83, were held at Strawberry Point Saturday afternoon, March 15. A brief prayer service at the Gill Funeral chapel was followed by the main service at Emanuel Lutheran church, the Rev. S.J. Meyer in charge. Burial was in Strawberry Point cemetery with the Gill Funeral service in charge of arrangements.
Emma Fliehler, daughter of Isador and Catherine Preitauer Fliehler, was born in the St. Sebald vicinity on July 4, 1868. She was one of a family of 11 children. Oct. 4, 1888, she married Gottleb Graesch at the St. Sebald Lutheran church and the couple farmed in that area until they retired and moved to Strawberry Point about 33 years ago.
Mr. Greasch passed away in 1940 and for the past seven and one-half years Mrs. Graesch had made her home at the Lutheran Home for the Aged in Strawberry Point. She had been bedfast for the past five weeks and passed away at 9:40 p.m. Wednesday March 12.
She is preceded in death by her husband and four sisters, all of Strawberry Point: Mrs. Sebald Andreae, Mrs. Fred Schuchmann, Mrs. Peter Schug and Mrs. Carl Huebsch.
Survivors include four sisters: Mrs. Elizabeth Huebsch, Strawberry Point; Mrs. Paul Busse, Seattle, Wash; Mrs. Frank Preuss, Oelwein; Mrs. George Mandeville, Oelwein; also two brothers, Gottlieb and Christian, both of Strawberry Point. Her five children survive: Mrs. Ralph Noel, Dubuque; Mrs. Ed Roth, Waterloo; Mrs. Ed Gleason, Seattle, Wash.; Mrs. James Hoskyn, Strawberry Point and Albert Graesch, Oelwein. There are also 19 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
