Mayville, John P. 1889-1928

MAYVILLE, EHRHARDT

John P. Mayville, son of Len Mayville and wife Lena, nee Ehrhardt, was born April 8, 1889. The place of birth was to be his home practically all of his life, with the exception of four years of his early youth, when he lived with his parents in Volga City.

John Mayville was a man who took a keen interest in the farm-life with its various activities, as indicated on letter-heads bearing his name, stating the things he had for sale, as Poland Honey; Milking Shorthorns; Barred Plymouth Rocks; Shropshire Sheep Collie Dogs.

He was always very enthusiastic about his work and greatly enjoyed discussing same with others, which revealed the fact that he was well posted in matters pertaining to his activities. For some time he was considerably handicapped in doing justice to his work because of physical ailments, and of late suffered much from a complication of diseases. Nothing was left undone in order to give relief. But in spite of the most tender care he received from loving hands, life’s day ebbed away slowly but surely. On Saturday afternoon, April 14th, 1928, the last page of his book of life was turned, thus attaining to the age of 39 years and six days.

His departure in the prime of years means indeed a great loss to the aged parents, since he was the only child left them of six children; five brothers having preceded him in death in infancy.

Besides the sorrowing parents, who will sadly miss him in their declining years, the departed leaves many relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 17th, at the home near Volga City and in the Evangelical Church at Elkader, with Rev. C. H. Franke officiating. Interment was made in the East Side Cemetery.
