George F. Heins

George F. Heins, 77, president of the Luana Savings Bank and former mayor of Monona, died Saturday at Community Memorial Hospital in Postville.

He was a former Clayton County attorney and served on the Monona school board as a director, president and secretary for a total of 36 years.

Services were scheduled for 1:30 p.m. today at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Monona, with burial in the church cemetery. A prayer service was planned for last night.

Rev. Harold Ward was in charge of the service and funeral arrangements were made by Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona.

Selected to be pallbearers were Greg Mosier, Gene Kramer, Larry Riveland, Ivan Schultz, Irvin Huinker, Loren Eberling, Telmer Olson and Don Fields.

Heins was born November 17, 1907, in rural Luana and married Lorene Kurdelmeyer on June 28, 1934, at Garnavillo. He graduated in 1929 from Cornell College, Mt. Vernon, and later from the University of Iowa Law School.

He started practice in Monona in 1932 as an attorney. He was secretary-treasurer for the Monona Farmer's Telephone Co. for 25 years, a charter member of the Kiwanis Club and served as lieutenant governor of the organization's Iowa-Illinois district.

Surviving are his wife; one son, Frederick of Monona; two daughters, Carol Marting of Monona and Lorna Carr of Overland Park, KA; and eight grandchildren.
