Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Dr. Donald Robert Fields were held Monday, August 21 at Garden City United Methodist Church in Monona, Iowa at 11 a.m. Rev. Gary Dobbins officiated. Burial of cremated remains was in Monona City Cemetery. Military services were conducted by Leslie H. Smith American Legion Post 519 and Monona AMVETS Post 27. Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona was in charge of services.
Donald Fields, son of Harold and Ruby (Drallmeier) Fields, was born September 1, 1926 in McGregor, Iowa. He died Friday, August 18, 1989 at Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse, WI. He was baptized January 4, 1929 in the Congregational Church, McGregor. He received his education in the McGregor school graduating in 1944.
Dr. Fields served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1945 to 1946. He attended Iowa State University and graduated in 1951 with a Doctorate Degree in Veterinary Medicine. On September 9, 1949 he married Inez Elizabeth Larson in Fayette, Iowa. They had two sons. He established his own veterinary practice in Monona in 1951 and operated it until the time of his death.
He was a member of Garden City United Methodist Church, Monona Commercial Club, Monona Kiwanis Club, Monona American Legion Post 519, Monona AMVETS Post 27, Monona Housing Development, Monona airport commission, Monona Volunteer Firemen, American Veterinary Medical Association, director and Vice-President of Luana Savings Bank and the mayor of Monona from 1964 to 1971.
Preceding him in death was his father, Harold Fields. Surviving is his wife, Liz; two sons, Michael of Chippewa Falls, WI and Kim and his wife, Ann of Grafton, WI; two grandchildren, Erika and Ian Fields; his mother Ruby Robbins of Postville, Iowa; step-mother, Blanche Fields, McGregor; two brothers, Bob, Warren, PA and William, Eldora, IA; and a sister, Lynn Moris, Bloomington, WI.
Honorary and active pallbearers were: Bob and Marlys Smith, Dan and Jo Schweikert, Marion and Fern Olson, Carlyle and Inez Kirkeberg, Oscar and Fern Erickson, Ray and Darlene DeSotel, LeRoy and Donna Thompson.
