Fred Dahms Interred

Funeral services for the late Friedrich Dahms of Castalia were held from the home at 1:30 p.m. last Tuesday and at 2:00 p.m. from Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia with the Rev. L. R. Meinecke officiating. Mr. Dahms was born on September 11, 1874 near Garnavillo and was baptized on November 11, 1874. He accompanied his parents in his early childhood to live on a farm in Grand Meadow township. While here he attended the public school for his elementary education. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 14, 1889 at St. Paul's in Postville.

The departed was united in marriage with Lizzie Kluss on February 21, 1899. The young couple set up housekeeping on a farm at Postville Junction where they lived for nine years after which they moved to a farm southwest of Castalia where they lived for 20 years and then retired in Castalia in 1928. Last February he, with his wife, were privileged to celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary although at this time he was not in good health. While visiting with his wife in their home last Friday evening, June 3rd, he passed away. Death was due to a heart attack. He had attained the age of 74 years.

The departed had served the Castalia community as mayor for about 15 years and prior to this time had served on the town council. With his passing Castalia loses one of its older members. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife and nine children: Harvey of Monona, Ethel Meyer of Postville, Gilbert of Chula Vista, California, Mabel Christofferson of Postville, Lloyd of California, Clarence of Dubuque, Earl of Concord, Minnesota, Lorene of Madison, Wisconsin and Wayne of Castalia; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; one brother, Edward of Postville; three sisters, Minnie Backhaus, Mary Heins and Helen Moon, all of Postville. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Henry, William and Louis, and two sisters, Reka Schultz and Emma Dahms.
