Obituary
FREITAG, Harry William
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 15, 1972 at 1:30 p.m. at Peace United Church of Christ for Harry William Freitag, 74, Read Township farmer, who died Saturday, February 12, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader. He had been confined to the hospital for 15 days. Burial was at Elkader, East Side Cemetery. The Rev. A.F. Volle officiated.
Harry was the son of Henry F. and Dorothea (Witte) Freitag. He was born April 1, 1897 in Boardman Township. He was educated in the rural schools. He was baptized at Peace Church and confirmed in that church on April 9, 1911 by Rev. C.H. Franke. Rev. Franke officiated at Freitag's wedding in 1919 when he was married to Viola Meyers.
Mr. Freitag farmed all his adult life. He spent 53 years on the Read Township farm east of Elkader. He was a charter member of the Clayton County Farm Bureau and had been honored as a 50 year member. Since 1939 he had operated his farm in partnership with his son-in-law, Laverne Zittergruen.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Laverne (Annabelle) Zittergruen, Elkader; by a brother, Elmer and a sister, Mrs. L.F. (Irene) Buckman, both of Elkader. He also leaves two nephews and a niece. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mrs. Loria Funk.
Pallbearers were Edward Walz, James Stence, John Geraghty, Clarence Lynch, Arthur Scherf and Richard Troester.
