Donald W. McShane
Donald W. McShane was born Aug. 5, 1916, to parents John Henry and Adda Smith McShane, in rural Luana, Iowa. He grew up and was educated in the rural schools in the Hickory Creek Area. He graduated from Luana High School and Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Mo.
Following employment at the Luana Savings Bank, Donald was appointed Postmaster of the Luana Post Office in 1941 and served as postmaster for 40 years. On Oct. 21, 1947 Donald was united in marriage to Lela Jane Nichols at the Luana Methodist church. The couple made their home in Luana.
Donald died Sunday, Nov. 8, 1992, at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, Wis.
Preceding him in death were his parents and three sisters, Grace Barr, Lois McShane and Neisa McShane.
Surviving is his wife, Lela Jane; one daughter and her husband, Tonya and Robert Hardy of Malibu, Calif.; one son and his wife, Kevin and Debra McShane of Mobile, Ala.; two sisters, Helen Lamborn of Postville and Lu Bundrick of Lansing; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1992 at 7:30 p.m. at Schultz's Funeral Home with Rev. Russell Bode officiating and Thursday, Nov. 12, 1992 at 1:30 p.m. at Garden City United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Dobbins, Rev. Karl Goodfellow and Rev. Gary Bode officiating.
Burial was in Sixteen cemetery, rural Monona. Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Chamberlain, Leo Steiert, Kenneth Burroughs, Myron Ihde, Gene Tujetsch, Leo Bollman, Everett Bollman, Don Taft and Glenn Palas. Active pallbearers were Bob Fosdal, Bill Traetow, Ronald Hofer, Conrad Barr, Ted
VanTuyle, Gary Ambrose, Leslie Ambrose, and Jerome Platten. Schultz's Funeral Home in Monona was in charge of services.Postville, Iowa newspaper of the time clipping, from Dorothy Schave's obituary collection.
