Emmett Schutte, 35, a prominent young business man of Luana, passed away suddenly Tuesday morning at his home following an illness of only a few hours. Mr. Schutte worked Monday morning, but in the afternoon he did not feel well and stayed at home. His condition became serious early Tuesday morning and he passed away at 10:30 a.m.
Mr. Schutte had been manager of the Luana Farmers Co-Operative Society since February, 1939, and from 1925 until 1939 worked as secretary and assistant buttermaker of the Luana creamery company. He was a member of the Luana town council and was secretary of the fire department and active in civic affairs.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m., in St. John's Lutheran church in Luana, with the Rev. Paul Adix officiating. burial will be in the Postville cemetery.
Mr. Schutte was born October 27, 1904, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schutte in Grand Meadow township. He attended the Luana Consolidated Schools and graduated from the high school there in 1924. On October 25, 1930, he was married to Miss Florence Sebastian of Postville and Luana had been his home since that time. He is survived by his wife and two year old daughter, Carol, his father, Fred Schutte, of Postville, three brothers, Louis of Ridgeway, Eldo of Castalia and Arno of Postville, and one sister, Mrs. Eldo Gericke, of Postville. His mother passed away Nov. 6, 1930.
