The last service for Mrs. Julia Farley, formerly a resident of this city, but for the past three years of Chicago, was held at McGregor Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, followed by interment in the Giard cemetery. The end came at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mack McGonigal in Chicago Friday.

Mrs. Farley was a pioneer settler of Clayton county and with her husband, J.P. McGonigal [sic*], located near McGregor in the early days. She resided there till 1899, his death having occurred some few years previous, when she came to Oelwein and made this city her home till about three years ago when she located in Chicago with her daughter, Mrs. Mack McGonigal.

She had been in her usual health for a woman of advanced years till about two weeks ago when she was taken ill, the end coming April 18.

She is survived by two sons and four daughters, most of whom were with her during the last days of her life. For many years she was a faithful member of the M.E. church and died in the faith of the Christ in whom she believed. She was highly esteemed by all who knew her, including a large circle of friends in Oelwein who extend sympathy to the bereaved family.

~Oelwein Daily Register, April 21, 1913
~*Note: this obituary mistakenly identified her husband as J.P. McGonigal instead of Peter Farley. Peter and Julia Farley are buried in the Giard cemetery.
