Funeral services for Carl J. Etteldorf, 91, were held Saturday, Aug. 26, 1989, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monona. Father John Moran officiated with burial in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Elkader. Honorary pallbearers were Harvey Gruber, Harold Trappe, Mike Schofield, Leonard Schissel, Marlyn Henderson and Lawrence Lotza. Pallbearers were Gene Carlson, Mark Sutton, Paul Luzum, Joe Bockman, John Schup and Carl Schup.
Carl J. Etteldorf was born Dec. 2, 1897, on a farm near Festina, the son of John and Margaret Hauber Etteldorf, he was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. He received his education in the Festina area schools and attended Wisconsin Business University in LaCrosse, Wis. and took up bookkeeping and banking.
On Oct. 11, 1934, he was united in marriage to Zita E. Roach at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elkader. He was assistant cashier at the First State Savings Bank in Waucoma for three years and Farmers State Bank in Monona for two years. He owned and operated a grocery store in Garnavillo for 10 years. He bought a building in Monona and was in the grocery business there for 15 years and owned a shoe store in Monona for eight years. Carl Etteldorf died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 1989, at the Guttenberg Care Center in Guttenberg where he resided since 1986. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monona.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Philip.
Surviving is his wife, Zita; one sister, Mrs. Hugo Schupanitz of Ossian and nieces and nephews.
