Eberling, Emma (Harnack) 1878-1964

Mrs. William Eberling, nee Emma Harnack, the daughter of Joseph and Caroline (Schmidt) Harnack, was born on December 30, 1878 at Clayton Center, Iowa. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center on October 19, 1879 and confirmed on March 18, 1894. She died at the Community Memorial Hospital in Postville on June 19, 1964, following a brief illness, at the age of 85 years, five months and 20 days.

She was united in marriage to William Eberling of Postville on March 16, 1899. To this union were born six children. She lived all of her married life in the Postville vicinity.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, on February 1, 1948; five brothers, Christ, Lester and Joe of Postville, John of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Fred, of Waukon; two sisters, Anna, Mrs. Henry Mohs of Postville and Mrs. Laura Schmidt of Owatonna, Minnesota; and one great grandchild, Mark Allan Reierson of Elgin.

She is survived by three sons, Elmer, Walter and Eli of Postville; three daughters, Lucy, Mrs. Ed Kamp of Clermont, Lora, Mrs. Elery Nuehring of Madison, Wisconsin, and Alice of Postville; one brother, Louie of Postville; two sisters, Elizabeth, Mrs. Henry Block of Postville and Lena, Mrs. John Sebastian of Postville; 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; a number of nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

She had been an active member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville since 1898, a member of the Lutheran Church Women, and an honor roll member of the Lutheran Church Women.

Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Postville on Monday, June 22, 1964 at 2:00 p.m. Interment was in the Postville cemetery with The Rev. Charles E. Witt officiating.
