Richard D. Robertson, 69, of Elkader died Friday, March 26, 2010, at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Waukon with Rev. Richard Iles officiating. Friends may greet the family for one hour before and again after the services at the church Wednesday. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon is in charge of arrangements.
Richard Dallas Robertson was born December 10, 1940 in Argo Fay, IL, the son of Dallas and Edith (Baker) Robertson. He attended Serena High School where he graduated in 1958. Rich joined the Navy right after high school with his brother Stan. He was stationed in Guam, Alaska, California, and Washington. After his discharge, he moved to Monona, where his parents lived. He met Diane Steele in 1963 while attending a dance at Rainbow Gardens in Waterville. Rich and Diane dated for two years and were married March 6, 1965. They lived in North Carolina, Illinois, and Iowa. Rich worked in farming, the feed business, construction, and retired but continued working at Walmart. He loved gardening, reading, drinking beer, and telling jokes (you had to allow 30 minutes per joke).
Survivors include his wife Diane of Elkader; his children, Tim (Carmen) Rounds of Portage, WI, Todd (Cindy) Rounds of Clermont, Terry (Sharon) Rounds of Dublin, GA, and Michelle Robertson of Red Wing, MN; 12 grandchildren, Dustin, Nikki, Nate, Allysia, Jessica, Sarah, Bradley, Toni, Kimberly, Taylor, Julia, and Mason; four great-grandchildren, Isabella, Gavin, Erika, and Carlos; 4 sisters, Sondra Schulz of Grantville, UT, Bonnie (Al Scheidigger) Kimpfbeck of Baraboo, WI, Wendy (Bob) Mawbey of Wisconsin Dells, WI, and Susan Tureno of Buckley, WA; and two brothers, Patrick (Jodie) Robertson of North Freedom, WI and Michael Robertson of Baraboo, WI. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother Stan; and a sister, Dottie.Waukon, Iowa newspaper, THE STANDARD, March 31, 2010.
