Funeral services for Gordon Lee Landsgard were held Wednesday, September 6, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder. The Rev. Marshall Hahn officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements.

Gordon Lee Landsgard, the son of George and Rosena (Torkelson) Landsgard, was born January 14, 1927 at Churchtown, west of Lansing, Iowa. He passed away Sunday, September 3, 2000, in Methodist Hospital at Rochester, Minnesota. He had reached the age of 73 years, seven months, and 19 days.

He was baptized at Lansing, Iowa and confirmed on June 29, 1941 in the Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder, Iowa. Gordon's parents moved from their home at Churchtown to a farm near Gunder when he was a child. He attended the Gunder School near his home in Clayton County and was graduated from Postville High School in 1944. He had been a member of the Future Farmers of America.

On August 5, 1950 he was married to Norene Amundson in the East Clermont Lutheran Church near Clermont, Iowa. To this union six children were born: Brenda, Gary, Daryl, Alan, Linda, and Loren. They were happy to celebrate their Golden Anniversary with their family last month.

Gordon had been a member of the Marion Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council and as a Deacon. He had been a member of the Board of Directors of the Gunder Cheese Factory and the Valley Co-op.

He loved to hunt and fish with his family and belonged to Whitetails Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, and the NRA.

Gordon was a lifelong dairy and hog farmer. He strongly believed in soil conservation and wanted to preserve the land for future generations. He was a local Master Corn Grower and was honored by Pioneer Seeds for several years. He played football and baseball in high school and played on the church softball team in the early sixties. He loved to watch his sons and grandchildren play ball and watch baseball on TV. Some of his favorite times were Sunday gatherings with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Geraldine, who died in infancy.

Surviving are his wife, Norene, of Clermont, Iowa, his children, Brenda (David) Carlson of Decorah, Iowa; Gary (Marsha) Landsgard of Postville, Iowa; Daryl and Alan Landsgard, both of St. Olaf, Iowa; Linda (David) Schlein of Monona, Iowa; and Loren (Lori) Landsgard of Fairbank, Iowa; ten grandchildren: Jenny (Todd) Kleiner; Jonathan Carlson; Carson, Holly and Tyson Landsgard; Justin and Nikki Landsgard; Kyle and Katie Schlein, and Madison Landsgard; two brothers, Orlan (Corrine) Landsgard and Maurice (Margie) Landsgard, all of St. Olaf, Iowa; and a sister, Geraldine (Leo) Friederich of Elgin, Iowa.

Casket bearers were Gary, Daryl, Alan and Loren, Landsgard and David Carlson and David Schlein. Honorary casket bearers were Mervin Reierson, Harold Hanson, Milton Olson, and Roger Wettleson.
