Funeral services for Althea W. Looby of Postville, Iowa, were held Sun., Dec. 10, 1978, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. Rev. Norris C. Swenson officiated with Rev. David R. Nelson assisting. Schutte Funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
Althea Wilhelmina Looby, daughter of William and Anna Bahlke Lemke, was born May 25, 1896, on a farm in Wagner Township, Clayton County, Iowa, and departed this life Dec. 7, 1978 at Postville, at the age of 83 years.
She was baptized on Oct. 4, 1895 and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, in 1910. On June 30, 1914, she was united in marriage with Charles F. Looby. To their union five children were born. They farmed near Farmersburg, then near Wadena, and in 1939 moved to a farm near Luana. In 1952 they moved to Postville. Her husband died in 1956.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister in infancy, and two grandsons, Dale Looby and Paul Landt.
She is survived by her two sons, Charlton of Postville and Lyle of Farmersburg; her three daughters, Idella (Mrs. Helmuth Landt) of Luana, Mrs. Dorothy Troester of Waukon, and Patricia Looby, Marion, Iowa; ten grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
