MRS. THOMAS WILLIS ... Mary Jane Masters, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Masters, was born Nov. 20, 1856 in Clayton County, Iowa. When she was about nine years old her parents moved to Harrison County, Missouri settling in the Fairview neighborhood north of Cainsville where she continued to reside until her death.
On May 15, 1887, she was united in marriage to Thomas Willis and to this union five children were born, four sons: Harvey, Alva, Eddie, Roy and one daughter: Mrs. Jessie Knox were born.
She united with the Christian Church in early life, and in 1917 united with the Pentacostal Church. She has lived a consistent Christian life and has been a wonderful mother sacrificing herself for the sake of her family. She has put the welfare of her family ahead of everything except her love for God, and her last thoughts were for her loved ones. She has been a good neighbor, and a friend to all. We will miss her cheerful face and kindly ways. Those who have been with her during her last illness have seen in her an example of patience and sweet trust in the Lord.
She has been ill for several years and had a poor constitution with which to fight an attack of typhoid fever. But through it all her trust has been in God. (six lines unable to read, section torn) ... her ears was the melody of Angel voices as they ushered her into the presence of her Savior. So with the evidences of her Christian life, the blessedness of her home life, and the sweetness of her passing, we are sure that she is a jewel added to the crown of her Lord. And when the redeemed of the Lord stand before the Throne of the great day to sing the new song we shall look for her dear face assured that we shall find it there.
She leaves to mourn her departure: the aged husband, three sons, Harvey, Alva and Roy and daughter Mrs. Jessie Knox. Three brothers: Edgar, Samuel, and Delbert Masters, two sisters: Ellen and Jennette, twelve grandchildren, one great grandchild, other relatives and a host of friends.
The funeral service was conducted at the Fairview Church Wed. Oct. 28, 1925 at 2:30 p.m. by Rev Campbell of Mt. Ayr assisted by Rev. J. M. Haight, pastor of the Pentacostal church after which burial was made in Fairview Cemetery.
