Two Killed, Third Critically Injured in Coasting Mishap
Marquette, Jan 4 - Paul Scarff, 10 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Scarff, lay critically injured in a hospital here today, the victim of a coasting accident which cost the lives of two Marquette children. The dead were Edwin Zahn, 11, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Zahn, and Donald Clinton, 8, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Clinton.
Their merry coasting party turned into tragedy when their sleds crashed into an automobile driven by the Rev. H.F. Glock, pastor of the Marquette and McGregor Lutheran church. A coroner's jury declared the deaths accidental. It was brought out at the inquest that the Rev. Glock, driving uphill, had turned partly off the pavement to let the youngsters whizz past out of danger. Scarff suffered a fractured skull. The other youths died shortly after the accident. Zahn and Clinton were riding "double" on one sled down a long hill. Scarff, riding alone, was following close behind.
