Lawrence P. Heller, 76, of Colesburg, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital surrounded by his family.

Visitation was Tuesday before services at the funeral home. Funeral services were Tuesday at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Guttenberg. Rev. Marvin Bries conducted.

Lawrence was born the son of Lawrence W. and Frances (Hannig) Heller on Dec. 1, 1933, in Dubuque.

Lawrence graduated from Senior High School in Dubuque and served his country proudly during the Korean War in the U.S. Navy where he was aboard the USS Midway. After his honorable discharge, Lawrence was united in marriage with Anita Johnson on Aug. 9, 1958, at Sacred Heart Church in Dubuque. Together they were blessed with five children. Lawrence worked for John Deere Dubuque Works until his retirement in 1989 after 30 years of service. Lawrence tilled the land he lived on growing crops. He was also a dairyman until they switched to raising beef cows. Lawrence was a member of the John Deere Union. He had an admiration for the outdoors which included hunting, fishing, his horses, taking the grandkids out for a 4-wheeler ride and spending time with his family.

Lawrence will be missed and loved by his wife of 51 years, Anita; five children, Randy (special friend, Denise) Heller of Guttenberg, Lori Heller of Warren, Ill., Sandra K. (Larry) Furlong of Dubuque, Timothy (Kim) Heller of Elkader and Dan (Jennifer) Heller of Cedar Falls; nine grandchildren; one sister, Joan (Bob) Palmer of Colesburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
