Mrs. Mary Genz, beloved wife of Henry Genz, and daughter of Henry Kamps and his wife Wilhelmina (nee Neverman), was born near Farmersburg, Iowa, on December 20, 1877. She was baptized in the Lutheran church at Clayton Center. Her parents later left Farmersburg and located near Wyckoff, Minn., where they resided eight years, then returning to Iowa and settling four and a half miles north of Luana and then on the present Lorenz Doerring farm. There being no Lutheran church in Luana at that time she received her religious instruction in St. Paul's Lutheran church at Postville.

After her confirmation she lived with her parents on the Heins place northwest of Postville, then on the Sebastian farm and next on the farm now occupied by Geo. Sander, and it was while residing here that she was united in marriage with Henry Genz and they established their new home on a farm north of Luana; next they moved to Wagner township, where they resided seven years and since 1910 they have lived on a farm northwest of Luana, where on Sunday, Jan. 8, 1928, she passed away at the age of 50 years and 18 days.

Beside her husband she leaves to mourn her loss three children -- Mrs. LeRoy Kruse, Elmer and Florence -- one brother, Fred Kamps of Dubuque; one sister, Mrs. Geo. Sander; three grandchildren and many friends.

The funeral services were held from St. John's Lutheran church, Luana, Wednesday, Jan. 11, Rev. H. P. Kumpf officiating.
