Curtis Clarence Meyer, 72, of Guttenberg, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital surrounded by his family.

Visitation was Monday at the Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Guttenberg, and one hour before services at the church. Funeral services were Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg. with the Rev. Harold McMillin conducting the services. Interment was at St. John's Cemetery, rural Guttenberg.

Curtis was born the son of Clarence and Parthenia (Moser) Meyer on Nov. 29, 1937, on the family farm on Jolly Ridge in rural Guttenberg. Curt attended the Jolly Ridge Country School and then graduated from the Guttenberg High School in 1956. He served his country proudly in the United States Army. On April 25, 1961, he was united in marriage with Lola Tomkins at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg. They were blessed with three sons, Daniel, David and Lyndon. Curt farmed almost his entire life having milked cows for 60 years. His farm and his family were Curt’s whole life but he did make time for growing his gladiolus and for playing the organ which he played by ear.

Curt will be forever loved and cherished by his wife of 48 years, Lola; three sons, Daniel Meyer of Guttenberg, David (Heather) Meyer of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Lyndon Meyer of Garnavillo; four grandchildren, Joy, Bethany, Alex and Oksana; two brothers, Ronald (Gertie) Meyer of Colesburg and Harlan (Shirley) Meyer of Guttenberg; goddaughter, JoLynn (Jason) Miller of Cedar Rapids; four nieces, three nephews and many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
