Lafonda Joy Scherf, 69, of Farmersburg, died Saturday, October 31, 2009, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, Prarie du Chien, Wis., following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 4, at 11 a.m., at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg. The Rev. Alan Schulz will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery, Farmersburg.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 3, from 4-8 p.m. at the Leonard Funeral Home, Monona, and one hour before services Wednesday at the church.
Lafonda was born January, 5 1940, on the family farm near Garberm, to Fredrick and Alma (Maier) Gerloff.
Lafonda was baptized January 7, 1940, in Elkport. She was confirmed April 11, 1954, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garnavillo by Rev. Urlaub. Lafonda graduated form Garnavillo High School with the class of 1957.
On June 22, 1958, Lafonda was united in marriage to William Scherf Jr. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garnavillo. Three children - William III, Lisa and Beth - were born to this union.
Lafonda was a devoted farm wife, church organist, church custodian and employee at the Elkader Greenhouse. She enjoyed music, gardening, feeding the birds, going on car rides, traveling out west to the mountains, visiting with people and spending time with her family.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, William Scherf Jr., Farmersburg; three children, William (Michelle) Scherf III, Farmersburg, Lisa (Dan) Berns, Farmersburg, and Beth Radloff (Mark Bries), Monona; her grandchildren, Joshua (Kathy) Brook, William IV, Kyle (Chelsea), Adam, Zachary, Derek, Annie and Matthew; two great-granddaughters, Karish and Kellian; three uncles, George, Arthur, and Alvin Maier; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Eldean and Cheryll Scherf, Marlene Glawe, Wayne and Vernelda Van Note, Lloyd and JoAnn Scherf; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lafonda was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Rosedal Gerloff, Leanna Gerloff, and one in infancy.
