Dennis L. Phelan, 52, of Guttenberg, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Visitation was Wednesday at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Guttenberg and one hour before service at the church. Funeral services were Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg. Rev. Neil Hofer conducted. Interment was at Guttenberg City Cemetery.

Dennis was born the son of James and Marjorie (Knospe) Phelan on Sept. 19, 1957, in Edgewood.
Dennis attended Garnavillo School in his early years and graduated from the Guttenberg High School. On July 21, 1979, he was united in marriage with Kathy Leliefeld at the United Methodist Church in Guttenberg. They were later blessed with two daughters. For many years, Dennis drove semi for Flexsteel Industries. He also was a member of the Local Union 421 for several years. He enjoyed playing his guitar and played with several bands such as the Heartland Band, Music Masters and Southern Comfort. Dennis loved to spend time with his family, going for motorcycle rides and he had great admiration for Freddy Kann’s Peterbilt.

Dennis will be forever loved and cherished by his wife, Kathy Phelan; two daughters, Amanda (Sean) Rork of Guttenberg and Jamie Phelan of Dubuque; two sisters, Susan (Dennis) Horstman of Guttenberg and Betty Harbaugh of Manchester; one brother, James (Linda) Dryer of Guttenberg; Shirley’s husband Everd of Guttenberg; and many more family and friends.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Shirley Tuecke.
