Marion I. Haltom, 89, of McGregor, Iowa, died Friday April 18, 2008, at the Great River Care Center in McGregor, Iowa, following a short illness.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 21, 2008, at St. Mary Catholic Church with burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, both in McGregor.

She is survived by a daughter Sandy (Frank) McMillin of McGregor; two granddaughters, Rebecca (the late Brent) Hackett of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, Sarah (Jim) Whitney of Marquette, Iowa; her great grandchildren Brittney, Danielle, Regan and Haley Hackett, Riley and Aedan Whitney, three step-great-grandchildren Daryl, Corey and Brad Whitney, niece Shirley Beckel of Rochester, Minn., and her great nieces and nephews, all who had a special place in her heart.

Marion was born August 30, 1918, in McGregor, Iowa, to Adam and Helena (Miller) Davies. She graduated from McGregor High School in 1936. She worked at the Ben Franklin in McGregor, later moved to Dubuque, Iowa, and then Iowa Falls. She married Lee Haltom on August 19, 1954. They moved to Marquette, Iowa, and purchased the Burke Hotel and Cafe, which they operated until Lee's retirement. Marion was the lunch room supervisor at McGregor School for many years. She later went to work at the Marquette Cafe where she worked for several years.

Marion was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, active in the Guild, Catholic Daughters, American Legion Auxiliary in Marquette and belonged to card and coffee groups. She loved her family, grandchildren, and her many friends.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lee, two sisters, one brother, and a grandson- in- law Brent Hackett.
