Funeral services for Larry James Fitch were held Thursday, Dec. 24, 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Monona. Rev. Harold O. Ward officiated. Burial was in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Monona. Military services were conducted by Monona AMVETS Post 27. Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona, was in charge of arrangements.
He died Tuesday, December 22, 1987, following a long illness, at Central Community Hospital, Elkader.
Larry James Fitch was born May 26, 1949, in Antigo, Wisconsin, to parents Darriel and Gertrude Rueger Fitch. He graduated from LaCrosse Central High School in 1967. He served in the U.S. Army from 1969-1972 in the United States and Thailand. He was a member of Monona AMVETS Post 27 and V.F.W. in Decorah.
He married Mary Dougherty on May 17, 1980 at Decorah Lutheran Church, Decorah. The couple owned and operated Spook Cave campground since May of 1984. Previous to this Larry served as deputy sheriff for Winneshiek County sheriff's department in Decorah for 10 years and operated the Singer Sewing Center in Decorah.
Preceding him in death was his father, Darriel and one brother, Dennis.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; 4 daughters, Julia and Jessica Fitch, LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and Laura and Melisa Fitch, McGregor; mother, Mrs. Gertrude Fitch, LaCrosse, Wisconsin; sisters, Sandra Fitch, Eau Claire, Wisconsin and Linda Fitch, LaCrosse, Wisconsin, and grandmother, Elsie Rueger, Antigo, Wisconsin.
Pallbearers were Wayne Mielke, James Rohde, Robert A. Ward, Robert J. Ward, Ervin Jones and David Johnson.
