Funeral services for Theodore Lawrence Godden, 56, Elkader tavern owner, were held Sunday afternoon, Dec. 24, at 2 o'clock at the Congretional United Church of Christ. Burial was in the East Side Cemetery. The Rev. Mace Crandall officiated.
Godden died suddenly last Friday morning, Dec. 22 at Central Communiy Hospital after being ill about two weeks.
A son of Herbert and Margaret Chettinger Godden, he was born in Elkport, Iowa on August 14, 1905. In 1933, he was married to Miss Edith Fairweather at Farley, Iowa. To this union were born two sons and a daughter, Teddy James and Toddy Michael, at home, and Sally Marlene, who died in early childhood.
Godden was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and of the American Legion. He moved with his family to Elkader over 12 years ago.
Surviving are his wife, two sons, three brothers and a sister. His brothers are: Roy of Waterloo, Vale of St. Louis, Mo. and Warren of Prairie Du Chien, Wis. His sister is Mrs. Ilo McGuire of Austin, MN.
