Rose Luella Olson

Funeral service for Rose L. Olson was held Monday, Jan. 10, 1994, 11 a.m. in the East Clermont Lutheran Church, rural Clermont. The Rev. Harry Peterson officiated. Special music was provided by D'Elda Erickson and Clarence Amundson. Lois Dummermuth was the organist. The Schutte Funeral Service of Clermont, was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the East Clermont Cemetery.

Rose Luella Olson, daughter of Ole and Carrie Atlanta (Gilbertson) Thorson, was born May 10, 1901, in Marion township, Clayton county, near Elgin. She died Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 5, 1994, in Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon, at the age of 92.

She was baptized June 9, 1901, in the East Clermont Lutheran Church, rural Postville, by the Rev. Jacob Tanner and confirmed there October 9, 1916, by the Rev. H. C. Hjortholm. She attended the Marion Township School.

On September 25, 1926, she was married to Clarence H. Olson at the East Clermont Lutheran Church. To this union a son, Quinton, was born. They lived on the Olson farm in Grand Meadow Township until Clarence died in September of 1955. Rose moved to Clermont in March of 1956. For over six years, she took care of her mother.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clarence and three sisters, Amelia Larson, Helen Blockhus and Anna Thorson, who died in infancy.

Surviving is her son, Quinton, and his wife, Arlene, Clermont; two grandchildren, Teresa and her husband, Jeff Koehn, Elgin, and Terence Olson and his wife, Brenda, Postville; three great grandchildren, Tyler William Koehn, Traci Lynn Koehn and Kylee Lynn Olson; nieces, nephews, a host of cousins and many friends.

Rose was a member of the East Clermont Lutheran Church and the Women of the ELCA. She looked forward to going to Circle and seldom missed the many days of quilting for mission every year.

She loved caring for her family, her home, gardening and flowers. The many doilies and afghans that Rose crocheted can be found in the homes of grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
