Gerald T. Olson
Services were conducted Tuesday, August 18 at 10:30 a.m. from St. John's Lutheran Church, Luana, for Gerald Olson who died at the Postville Community Hospital Sunday, August 16, after several years of failing health. The Rev. John Mohr officiated.
Gerald T. Olson, son of Henry and Clara Olson, was born December 1, 1920 on a farm in Clayton County. He received his education in the Marion Township Rural Schools.
He served his country in the Navy for four years during World War II.
He was united in marriage to Geraldine Howard on November 7, 1946. To this union were born three children, two sons, David and Dale, now serving in the Armed Forces, one daughter, Debbie, Mrs. Tom Yoe, of Loves Park, Illinois.
He was baptized and confirmed at the Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder.
After completing his military service he was engaged in farming near Gunder for five years. He was then employed in the cheese factories at Luana and Elkader.
The last 20 months he resided at the home of his parents at Luana.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Hiram C. Olson and Milo A. Olson.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Geraldine, three children, two grandchildren, Michelle and Tracy Yoe, his parents, two brothers, Marion of Monona, Donald of Postville, and one sister, Clarine, Mrs. Lloyd Schutte of Castalia.
Burial was in the Luana Cemetery.
