Helen Mathilda Lenth
Helen Mathilda Lenth, 94, Postville, Iowa, formerly of Monona, Iowa, died Sunday, September 20, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center, Postville, Iowa, following a brief illness. Helen was born on June 6, 1915, in Monona Township, Clayton County, Iowa, to Henry and Lietzie (Heins) Landt.
Helen was baptized on September 19, 1915, and was confirmed on August 25, 1929, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, Iowa. She attended District #4 Country School in Monona Township.
Helen was united in marriage to Harold Lenth on January 4, 1940, at the Lutheran Parsonage in Monona, Iowa, by the Rev. H.W. Siefkes. Two children were born to this union. Helen enjoyed flowers, gardening, baking and canning. She worked along side Harold on their farm for many years. She loved spending time with her family and will be deeply missed by the many people who knew her.
Survivors include one son, Jimmie (Carol) Lenth, Farmersburg; two grandsons, Jared Lenth, Marion and Joshua Lenth, Manchester and one sister-in-law, Bernita (George) Voelker, SD.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold, on October 14, 2007; her daughter, Gayle Lenth, in 1971; two sisters, Leona (Robert) Foels and Charlotte Landt, who died in infancy.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2009, at 11:00 am at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, Iowa. The Rev. Alan Schulz will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2009, from 5-7 p.m. at the Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Postville, Iowa, and one hour before services at the church on Thursday.
