Ewald Walch

Ewald Fritz Walch, of Luana, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wis., following a short illness. He was 82.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, July 25, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, with Greg Hamm officiating. Burial followed in the Postville Cemetery, Postville. Leonard Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of arrangements.

Ewald was born on April 22, 1927, in Luana, to John and Frieda (Miene) Walch. He was baptized on June 6, 1927, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, by the Rev. E. J. Finch. He attended the Luana School in Luana.

Ewald was united in marriage to Jeanette Becker on September 29, 1952, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. Two children were born to this union. Ewald and Jeanette farmed their entire married life together until they retired to Luana in March of 1979. Ewald enjoyed woodworking and watching his livestock and corn grow. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ewald will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Over the years, Ewald served on the Luana Co-Op Board, Luana Town Council, Luana Improvement Committee, St. Paul Lutheran Church Council, St. Paul Property Committee and the Village of Hardin Sign Committee. Ewald and Jeanette were members of the Monona Merry Mixers Square Dance Club and numerous card clubs for many years.

Ewald was preceded in death by his parents, John and Frieda Walch; one grandson, Brent Schroeder; four brothers-in-law, Alvin Lenth, Eugene Schutte, Lloyd Everman, Orlando Moeller and one sister-in-law, Marilyn Walch.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Walch, Luana; two children, Loren (Denise) Walch, Postville, and Brenda (Leo) Schroeder, Castalia; four grandchildren, Kurt Walch, Monona, Katie (Kevin) Tilson, Luana, Sarah Schroeder, Castalia, and Emily Schroeder, Castalia; four great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Karli and Kyle Tilson and Kaylee Walch; two sisters, Laura Lenth, Postville, and Lillian Schutte, Postville; one brother, Harlan Walch, Luana; sisters-in-law, Helen Everman of Postville, Margenelle Moeller of Monona and Gladys (Daryl) Sampson of Castalia.
