Funeral services for Gertrude Norden were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 19 at Garden City United Methodist Church, Monona. The Rev. Marion Bloodworth officiated. Schultz Funeral Home was in charge of services. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery.
Gertrude was born February 9, 1898, in rural Victor, Iowa to parents William and Mary Heinen Norden. She was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith.
She graduated from Victor High School. She earned a teaching certificate and taught several years. She entered St. Luke's school of nursing in Cedar Rapids, becoming a registered nurse and worked as a nurse for over 40 years. She pursued her nursing career at St. Luke's in Cedar Rapids for 2 years; Sibley Memorial, Baltimore, Maryland; Toledo Hospital, Toledo, Ohio; and Evanston General Hospital, Evanston, Illinois, where she worked for over 25 years.
In the 1960's Gertrude retired from nursing but continued to work as a private nurse. She moved to Monona in 1967 to make her home with Dr. and Mrs. Enoch Kettelkamp.
She was active in church and community activities. She died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1987 at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids.
Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Elmer and George.
Surviving is one sister, Elsie Kettelkamp of Monona, and nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were great-nephews: Bill, Bob, Peter, Jim, Dick, Don and John Kettelkamp and Tom Sheperd.
