Adolph Nielsen Rites at Luana

Funeral services for Adolph Christian Nielsen, 55, were held Monday afternoon, Feb. 1, at 1:30 o'clock at St. John Lutheran church in Luana, with Rev. Luther A. Meyer officiating.

Burial was in the Luana Lutheran cemetery. The Leslie H. Smith American Legion Post. No. 519 of Monona, formed an honorary escort and conducted the military services at the grave.

Mr. Nielsen suffered a heart attack in Sept. 1959, and had two attacks since that time. He was admitted for medical treatment Jan. 13, at the Postville hospital, where he passed away Thursday, Jan. 28.

He was born the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Nielsen, Feb. 25, 1909, at Oland, Denmark. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in Denmark, where he attended school.

He came to America in Jan. 1929, to work for a Danish couple in Nebraska, who had sponsored his coming. Later he came to central Iowa and then to northeast Iowa.

He was married to Mabel Bugenhagen Radach, Dec. 10, 1943, at Washington Prairie Lutheran church at Decorah. The couple lived in Luana, where Mr. Nielsen was employed as a school bus driver and a painter. He also drove a milk and cream route and more recently drove a gravel truck.

Mr. Nielsen served with the United States Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion.

Surviving are his wife; one son, Dean, of Cedar Rapids; two step children, Mrs. Lynn (Janice) Boyles of Center Point, and Gary Radach of Omaha, Nebr.; and two step-grandchildren. Also one brother, one sister, a half-sister, and other relatives in Denmark.

Pallbearers were: Harry Gordon, Lamoine Wentz, Robert Krambeer, Lynn Hangartner, Lawrence Baade, Arthur Wolter, Clarence Schave, and Lawrence Wentz.
