Services for Elmer Topel
Funeral services for Elmer Topel were held Wednesday, September 4, 1991, at 11:00 a.m. at the Garden City United Methodist Church, Monona. Rev. Gary Dobbins officiated. Organist was Ric Benzing and vocalists were John Wachter, David Schlitter, Harlan Hass, and Kendall Benzing. Pallbearers were Wilbert Topel, Robert Peters, Bill Peters, Richard Moses, Milton Klima and Bud Levenhagen. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery, Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona, Iowa, was in charge of services.
Elmer Marten Topel, son of Charles and Mathilda Schlitter Topel, was born March 17, 1904 in Allamakee County. He received his education at the Sixteen School. On June 22, 1932 Elmer was united in marriage to Grace Lena Viola Levenhagen at the Evangelical Church, Monona. The couple farmed until retiring in 1968. He was a life long member of the Pilgrim Evangelical United Brethren Church, which later became a part of the Garden City United Methodist Church.
Elmer died Sunday, September 1, 1991 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, Iowa.
Preceding him in death were his parents; six brothers, Charles, Clarence, Herman, Albert, George and Theodore; and one sister, Minnie.
Survivors include his wife, Grace; a daughter, Bonnie Grace (Mrs. Robert) Tyler of Guttenberg; three grandchildren, Daniel D. Tyler of McCausland, Iowa, Jamie L. Tyler of Princeton, Iowa, and Robert L. Tyler Jr. of West Liberty, Iowa, and seven great granchildren, Holly, Kelly, Keith, Curtis, Megan, David and Shawna; and a host of other relatives and friends.
