DWANE HENRY HOTH 1931-2008

Funeral services were held for Dwane Henry Hoth at 11:00 a.m. on May 26, 2008 at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center, Iowa with interment in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Clayton Center. Leonard Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Dwane Henry Hoth, 77, of Elkader, Iowa, died Thursday, May 22, 2008, near Dyersville, Iowa, following injuries sustained in an auto accident. Dwane was born on March 3, 1931, to Edwin and Viola (Schlizer) Hoth. He attended country school through the eighth grade.

Dwane was united in marriage to Joann Walter on August 29, 1950. One son, Bill, was born to this union. Dwane and Joann divorced in 2004. Dwane farmed for a short time and was a truck driver for over fifty years.

Survivors include one son, Bill (Magda) Hoth, Elkader; two grandsons, Jim (LaGina) Hoth, Elkader, Will (Pam) Hoth, Elkader; five great-grandchildren; four siblings, Harold (Rachael) Hoth, Farmersburg, LaNida (Lorenz) Landt, Luana, Ivanelle Henning, Elkader, John Hoth, Cedar Rapids and one sister-in-law, Ivanelle Hoth, Elkader.

Dwane was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harry Hoth and one brother-in-law, Donald Henning.

Victims of Crash Near Dyersville Identified

DYERSVILLE, Iowa -- The names of two men involved in a fatal accident near Dyersville on Thursday morning have been released by the Dubuque County Sheriff's Department.

Dwayne H. Hoth, 77, of Elkader, was killed, and Lawrence C. Schultz, 58, of Garnavillo, was seriously injured and airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The accident occurred when Hoth, driving east and pulling a cattle trailer with his truck, failed to stop at the intersection of Iowa 136 and Floyd Road at 10:30 a.m., according to authorities. He was struck broadside by a southbound truck being driven by Schultz on Iowa 136. There were no other occupants in either truck.
