Fleet Peake
Fleet Peake passed away on April 21, 2008, at the Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wis., following a brief illness.
Visitation was Wednesday at Leonard Funeral Home, Elkader. Funeral services were private memorial services. Inurnment is to be held at a later date.
Fleet was born on March 13, 1919, to Charles and Rosa (Schneider) Peake, on the family farm near Mederville. He was the youngest of eleven children.
Fleet attended country school in Mederville and graduated from Elkader High School in 1937.
On December 9, 1945, he was united in marriage to Irene Rodas. To this union two children were born.
Following graduation he worked on the family farm with his brother Frank. He served in the U.S. Army from July 10, 1942 to May, 1943. Fleet and Irene made their home on a farm in Mederville from 1945-1952. In the spring of 1952, they moved to the farm where they currently reside near Garnavillo.
Fleet always enjoyed spending time with his family and most recently his great-grandson, Joshua. Mules and horses were his passion which he loved to share with anyone he could. He enjoyed trail rides and was a member of the Whistlin' Bit Saddle Club for years. Whenever neighbors or friends needed help, Fleet was always willing to lend a hand. After retiring, you could find him at Johnson's Supper Club round table having coffee and socializing. He enjoyed telling stories, making people laugh and was always ready for a good card game.
Fleet is survived by his wife of sixty two years, Irene; their children, Elaine and Carson Stocks and Dean Peake, all of Garnavillo; granddaughters, Melissa Stocks Stade and her husband Scott of Garnavillo, Susan Stocks Noack and her husband Craig of Guttenberg, Marissa (Rice) Lenth and her husband Joe of Arlington; great-grandson, Joshua Stade; one sister, Addie (Bobbie) Peake of Arlington and several nieces and nephews.
Fleet was preceded in death by his parents; sister Viola and brother Clarence, both in infancy; six brothers, Earl, Wilbur, Clarence, Victor, Hugh and Frank Peake and one sister Florence Dean.
