Gordon Reinke

Gordon Carl Reinke, son of Charles and Floretta Westfall Reinke, was born December 5, 1911 in Wagner Township, rural Farmersburg, Iowa. He was baptized April 7, 1912 by Rev. Henry Robe, and confirmed July 19, 1923 at Prairie Salem Evangelical Church by O. H. Hillman. Gordon received his education in the Froelich and Farmersburg schools He graduated from the Farmersburg Public High School in 1929.

As a young man, Gordon was employed in the Farmersburg general store and assisted his parents on the farm.

On October 14, 1942 Gordon was united in marriage to Irene Ruth Marfilius at the Pilgrim Evangelical Church, Monona, Iowa by Rev. Harvey W. Raduege. Gordon was self-employed as a farmer for 48 years, retiring October 6, 1979, at which time they moved to Monona. He dedicated his time to his family, church and community. He served in many organizations in the community. From childhood on, his hobbies were collecting stamps and coins. He had an active interest in community, national and world affairs through his enjoyment of reading and travel.

Gordon died Friday, Dec. 4, 1992 at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, Wis. He had reached the age of 80 years, 11 months and 30 days. Gordon was a member of Prairie Salem Evangelical Church, Pilgrim Evangelical United Brethren Church and its successor the Garden City United Methodist Church where he served in many leadership capacities.

Preceding him in death were his parents. Surviving are his wife, Irene; one daughter and her husband, Marla and Gary Nikodim of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Garon and his wife, Theresa of Madison, Wis., and Robert of Janesville, Wis.; two grandchildren, Brian and Kevin Reinke; and a sister, Edna Farris of Prescott, Ariz.

Funeral services for Gordon Reinke were held Monday, Dec. 7, 1992, 11:00 a.m. at the Garden City United Methodist Church, Monona, Iowa. Rev. Gary Dobbins officiated. Pallbearers were Kevin Kamerer, Brent Carlson, Robert Trappe, Ronald D. Mueller, Roger Winters, and Joe Connor. Honorary pallbearers were Donald Radloff, Virgil Radloff, Kenneth Radloff, John Wachter, Harlan Hass, David Schlitter, Jackson Turner, Harvey Montour, and Harlan Kutzbach. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of services.
