Mabel A. Schutte

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on September 1 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, Iowa with interment at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Monona, IA

Mabel A. Schutte, 89, Monona, Iowa, died Thursday, August 30, 2007, at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, WI, following a brief illness.

She was born June 18, 1918, in rural Clayton County to Hilmuth and Ida (Landt) Mueller. Mabel was baptized on July 21, 1918, into the Lutheran faith and confirmed August 30, 1931. She was united in marriage to Harry G. Schutte on February 9, 1947.

Mabel enjoyed her years at Prairie Maison where she made many friends. She considered those friends to be her family also. She enjoyed bingo, music, dancing and especially her church group from Eastman, WI. Mabel liked jewelry, musical jewelry boxes and Beanie Babies.

Survivors include two sons, Harry (Dyane) Schutte, Monona, Marlin P. Schutte, Postville; one daughter from a previous marriage, Viola (Dan) Goubula, McHenry, IL and two step-children, Betty Heins, Dubuque and Robert (Rusty) Schutte, Rockford, IL; one daughter-in-law, Ruth (Ken) Jaurett, Decorah; sixteen grandchildren; thirty eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and one sister-in-law, Esther Schutte, Postville.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harry G. on February 5, 1995; children Donald Engelhardt, Duane Engelhardt, Violet Larson (twin of Viola), step-daughter, Helen Kleinschrodt; one grandchild, Calvin Lewis; three sisters, Florence Mueller, and two in infancy, Helen Mueller and Hazel Mueller; two daughters-in-law, Patricia Engelhardt and Linda Schutte.
