Roy Gillard Halverson, son of Erick & Mari (Knudtson) Halverson, was born at Wagner Twp., Clayton County, Iowa on December 12, 1897. God called him to rest on September 16, 1984 at his home in Clermont; he was 86 years.
Roy was baptized into the Christian faith on March 13, 1898, and confirmed in Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder, Iowa.
He attended Dry Run country school in Clayton County. On April 7, 1934 he was united in marriage to Alvina Ruroden in West Union, Iowa. Together they farmed in Fayette and Clayton counties for many years. They were blessed with six children. Royale Daniels of Cedar Rapids, James of Elkader, Gary of Lovelady, Texas, Mrs. Vernon (Lynn) Ames of Marion, Larry of Clermont, and Mrs. Phil (Jaynee) Ruckdashel of Elgin. In 1978 they retired to their home in Clermont.
He leaves to survive his wife and six children, 14 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Also left to survive are a brother Melvin of Elkader, and a sister Mrs. Selma Sonstegaard of Oelwein, Iowa.
Preceding him in death were his parents, four brothers; Henry & Charlie Wilson, and Edwin & Elmer Halverson, and two sisters: Theoline Nelson and Matilda Christianson.
He will be laid to rest in the Highland Lutheran Cemetery, rural Elgin, Iowa. Blessed be his memory among us. Casket Bearers: Henry Christianson, Jr., Glenn Larson, George Kuehl, Dwight Rodas, Neal Krieg, and Hanrry Hanson.
