Willis Timmerman

Funeral services for Willis Timmerman were held Friday, August 26 at 11 a.m. at Garden City United Methodist Church, Monona, with Rev. Gary Dobbins officiating and Rev. Harold O. Ward assisting. Music was provided by a men's quartet, Tom James, David Schlitter, Kendall Benzing and John Wachter. Organist was Rick Benzing.

Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery. Military Services at the grave site were conducted by Amvets Post 27 and Leslie H. Smith Post 519. Schultz's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Willis Burton Timmerman, son of William and Hermina (Witt) Timmerman, was born February 23, 1919 in Allamakee County, Iowa. He died Tuesday, August 23, 1988, at the Prairie du Chien, WI hospital after a brief illness.

He was baptized March 26, 1919. He received his education in the rural schools of Allamakee County. During World War II he served in the U. S. Army and received numerous awards.

He was an active member of Garden City United Methodist Church having served as treasurer, worked with the youth group, served as Sunday School Superintendent and as an usher.

In October, 1945, he married Hildegarde Schlein in Monona. The couple had 3 children. In 1971, Hildegarde died. June 16, 1973 he married Ruth Jacobson Hupfer. He worked as an auto mechanic, farmer and for the Monona Co-Op, retiring in 1981.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, and 5 brothers: Henry, Fred, Grover, Harry and Herman.

Surviving is his wife Ruth; 2 sons, Lt. Col. Larry of Merced, CA and Bradley of Mukwonago, WI; 1 daughter, Mrs. Pat (Linda) Pepper of Nashville, TN; 2 step-daughters, Mrs. Dan (Karen) McAchran of Torrence, CA, and Mrs. Ronald (Diane) Mueller of Monona; 7 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, 2 step-great grandchildren; 2 brothers: Theodore and Frank, both of Monona; 4 sisters: Selda Topel and Anna Ferguson of Waukon, Emma Snitker of Frankville and Mabel Kruse of Monona.

Pallbearers were Jason Ferguson, David Trappe, Wilburt Topel, Roger Bechtel, Milo Timmerman and Lindsey Timmerman.
