MRS. MOHNING DEAD

Succumbs After Week’s Illness
With Pneumonia

Death entered the Mohning home seven miles east of Le Mars in Marion township Wednesday morning, January 13th, and robbed that home of the mother, Mrs. Henry Mohning. The deceased has been in feeble health as a result of a general breakdown two years ago. With the coming of the present warm wave which has given so many bad colds, she contracted pneumonia and after wrestling with that sickness for a week, succumbed.

Mrs. Mohning’s maiden name was Anna Schulte. She was born sixty-two years ago on March 16th in Clayton county, Iowa, and grew to young womanhood and was married Jan. 28, 1876 to Henry Mohning at that place.

They came immediately to this county and have lived continuously on the home place in Marion township ever since. The Mohnings are among the oldest settlers in the county. Six children were born to bless their union, namely, Mrs. Chas. Myers, who died about five years ago; Herman, of Woodstock, Minn.; Will who lives near the home place, and Marie, Louis and Anna, who are at home. The deceased is also survived by her husband, one brother, Louie H. Schulte, who was recently elected to the office of county treasurer of this county, and one half brother, Fred Benjegerdes, of Postville, Iowa.

The funeral was held here Saturday morning. The cortege left the home at eleven o’clock in the morning and arriving in Remsen where Rev. Birkner, pastor of St. Paul’s Evangelical church conducted the services, [assisted] by Rev. Domman, of Le Mars.

The remains were laid to rest in the Remsen cemetery.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Fred Mohning, Chas Meyer, Diederich Schultz, of Clayton County; Fred Benjegerdes and Chas Meyer of Postville, Iowa; Mrs. Henry Schulte and daughter Alma and Mrs. B. F. Sluthert of Cook, Nebr.
