William Decker

William "Bill" D. Decker, age 76, of Prairie du Chien, WI died Monday, March 26, 2007 at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 30 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien, with Rev. Paul Graham officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Prairie du Chien. Military Rites were accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard.

Bill was born Aug. 27, 1930 in Farmersburg at home. He attended country school near Monona and later entered the Army in November of 1948. He served until May of 1952 after spending two years in Korea, where he earned several medals.

He married Hazel Jean (Cooley) Horsfall August 23, 1975 and they have nine children. Bill drove his 18-wheeler for 52 years until he retired. After retirement he worked as a security guard for the Town and Country Jamboree. Bill enjoyed horseback riding and trail riding with his brother-in-law Walt Horsfall.

Bill is survived by his wife of 31 years, Hazel Jean; their children, Jody (Deb) Decker, Enola Gay (Dennis) Hurley, Roland Decker, Mike (Joan) Cooley, Teresa (Richard) Barrette, Kathy (Greg) Tangeman, and Marysue (Mike) Jones; his sister, Delpha (Andy) Moser; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sons, Billy, Dennis and an infant son; and two sisters, Marilyn Seckel and Jessie Troester.
