Funeral service were March 24, 2007 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Garnavillo, IA, with
interment in the Garnavillo Community Cemetery.Ethelyn Burlett (Vigen) Johnson was born the daughter of Otis and Olga (Windloss) Vigen, February 3, 1921, in Mayville, North Dakota. She died Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at Elkader.
Ethelyn received her education in country school, owned and operated Mike’s Tavern with her husband in Garnavillo and provided in-home day care for many years.
She was a member of St. Paul’s WELCA and American Legion Auxiliary, and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cross word puzzles, and spending time with family and friends.
On January 27, 1951, she was united in marriage with Melvin “Mike” Johnson in St. Olaf.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan (Shawn) Langan of Cedar Falls, and Mary Ann (Randy) McMillin of Elkader, three sons, Terry (Wanda) Johnson of Magnolia, Texas, Jeffery Johnson of Dallas, Texas, Michael (Gretchen) Johnson of Manchester, six grandchildren, Michael, Tyler, Adam, Samuel, Isaac, and Madeline, one sister, Esther Moen of Mayville, North Dakota, three sisters-in-law, Donna Hallick of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Ruth Vigen of Jefferson, Iowa, and Viola Vigen of Jamestown, North Dakota, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Mike, and five brothers, Orlin, LaVonne, Maurice, Wayne, and Verl.
