LuVern Eberhardt
Funeral services for LuVern H. Eberhardt, 70, rural Elkader, will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader, Iowa. Rev, Dan Driscoll will officiate with burial at East Side Cemetery, Elkader. Music will be provided by Jean Welsh, organist. Honorary pallbearers are Clyde Kramer, Ken Reimer, Doug Reimer, Burnell Thiese, Carlus Schuety, Pat Keleher, Don Elvers, Merlin Anderson, Tim Riniker, and Rober Dennler. Pallbearers are Milt Kramer, Bob Kramer, Ronnie Reimer, Mike Reimer, Dennis Eberhardt, and Jerry Eberhardt. Arrangements are by Leonard Funeral Home, Elkader.
He was born June 6, 1931, in rural Clayton Centre, Iowa, son of Louis and Elta (Kalke) Eberhardt. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Centre. He graduated from Elkader High School in 1949. In 1951, he joined the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1955 after which he attended Upper Iowa University.
On November 22, 1958, he was united in marriage to Lucille Cords at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Centre. After returning home from the Navy, LuVern farmed in the Elkader area all his life. He enjoyed farming, his family, and the small things in life. He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, the American Legion and the VFW. He died Friday, July 31, 2001, in his home after a long battle with leukemia.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille of Elkader, two daughters, Betty (Terry) Wilker, West Salem, Wisconsin, and Becky (Bill) Thompson, Marion, two sons, Louis (Theresa) Eberhardt, and John Eberhardt, Elkader, eight grandchildren, Colin, Chase, and Sophia Wilker, Rachel and Kendra Thompson, Darci and Christi Eberhardt and one grandchild soon to be born, a sister, Anna Mae Kramer, Elkader, a sister-in-law, LaNida Eberhardt, Elkader, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Florence Fette, and Marie Reimer and two brothers, LeRoy and Floyd Eberhardt.
