Shirley Nylund

Shirley R. Nylund, of St. Cloud, Minn., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006, at her home surrounded by her family after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was 78.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, St. Cloud, Minn. The Rev. Gary Berg officiated. There will be a private interment on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Pinewood Cemetery, Crosslake, Minn. Funeral arrangements were made by Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, Minn.

Shirley Nylund was born Jan. 6, 1928 to Lewis J. and Clara R. (Mork) McNally in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, Iowa. She graduated from Postville High School and Luther College in Decorah. Shirley married Donald R. Nylund on June 17, 1950, at Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder.

She taught elementary school in the Sauk Rapids School District for 10 years, retiring in 1986. Shirley also taught several years at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Preschool. She was a member of TRA; MEA; and Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for many years.

Shirley is survived by her beloved husband, Donald Nylund of St. Cloud; sons and daughter, Steven (Mary) Nylund of Rogers, Minn.; Donovan Nylund of Belmont, N.C.; Jeff (Terri) Nylund of Ramsey, Minn.; Julie (Michael) Cadalbert of Baldwin, Wisc.; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Nylund) Surla, Jaclyn (Nylund) Miller, Rachel (Nylund) Turkowski, and Jacob Nylund; one great grandson, Adam Miller; brother and sisters, Mike McNally of Burke, Va.; Mary Blatti of New Hampton; Lucille Cochrane of Ankeny; Dolores Varty of Clear Lake; Patricia Smith of Elgin; Betty Searls of Ames; Sandra Cutler of Ankeny.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister, Wayne and Robert McNally, and Virginia Rude.

Memorials are preferred to Bethlehem Lutheran Church Sunday School program.

Pallbearers were her children and grandchildren.
